For the ‘Altmühltal Nature Park Information Centre’ in Eichstätt, we developed an interactive panorama wall that thematically addresses the unique dry grassland landscape of the Altmühltal. The result was a virtual flight over a large part of the nature park, offering viewers the opportunity to obtain background information on various aspects of the landscape.
The installation was designed as a ‘multi-user application’, which required a new type of interaction logic. Face tracking was ultimately used to control the application, which was developed in collaboration with Fraunhofer IIS (Erlangen) and Fraunhofer IGD (Darmstadt). The tracking allows users to interact freely with the panoramic wall by recording their positions in space.
There are various ‘3D icons’ distributed within the landscape that visitors can activate. Through these interactions, additional background information is displayed in the form of images, texts and videos on so-called ‘info layers’. This immersive experience allows visitors to discover the special features of the Altmühltal dry grassland landscape in an exciting and vivid way.
