Until 2006, the Allersberg Gilardi manufactory made Christmas tree decorations from gold and silver plate. Today, a small museum provides information about the history and production of the famous Allersberg Christmas tree ornaments.
Many pieces only exist as unique items and are on display under protection, which makes it difficult to view them closely. The interactive installation of the Virtual Christmas Tree makes it possible to playfully experience the history of their creation and bring the ornaments to life digitally. The most important exhibits have been faithfully reproduced in 3D for this purpose.
The simulation runs on an innovative, stereoscopic display with head tracking that detects the position of the head. This creates a high-resolution, immersive and holographic 3D display. With the help of a virtual pen, museum visitors can interactively touch the exhibits, seemingly remove them from the screen and view them up close. All the ornaments can be explored interactively and placed freely on a virtual Christmas tree, with the viewer receiving detailed information about their history.
Once the tree is fully decorated and the Christmas tree topper has been placed, the system creates a personalised digital postcard that can be sent by email with Christmas greetings during the Advent season.
